Name Game

How did you parents decide on your name?
I believe they watched a movie and one of the characters was named Megan. They liked the name and there you go. Mom, correct me if I'm wrong. My middle name, Lindley, is my great grandmother's maiden name.

Do your initials (first/middle/last) spell anything funny?
MLS. They don't spell anything, but always make me think of Major League Soccer.

Did you take your middle name from childhood or did you drop your middle name and take your maidenname as your middle name?  (Or if unmarried, what do you plan to do?)
I love my middle name but plan on being traditional and dropping it.

Are you or will you name your children systematically (ie, same first letter, same origin, etc?)
Haven't really thought about that. It would be smart for them to all have the same initials so their monogram would be the same. :)

Did you decide on names as a little girl?  Did you stick to them or change your mind?
I had some names that I liked, but none that have really stuck.

Does your family have any names that have been passed down through generations?
My dad is the second. Other than that just individual names, rather than whole names have been passed down. Me with my great grandmother's maiden name. My sister's middle name is my dad's first name (she HATED that growing up, but likes it now).

Do you look at the meaning of the name or just the name itself?
I would pick a name for the name, rather than the meaning, personally.

Do you name pet names with human names or dog names?
Human names I suppose. However, I didn't name Brady after anyone (not even Tom Brady). My roommate at the time (holler, Jenny!) suggested it while we were trying to think of one and I loved it! So he was named Brady. Way better than the original pick, Spanky.

Are there any names that you have an affinity or dislike for based on a childhood experience or someone you once knew?
Yes, definitely.
What are some of your favorite names and why?
I plan on naming my little girl Lindley eventually. And I have an idea of what I would name my little boy, but I'll just keep that to myself for now. :) It will be a while before I even have to worry about that though.

Your turn!

  1. Your first name came from the movie "The Thornbirds", but the character went by Meggie. Dad loved the name but not the nickname. Your initials remind me of Multiple Lising Service that real estate agents use to find info on houses for sale. I think we need more detail on the question about names you have a dislike for based on childhood experiences, etc.

  13. I love the name Lindley. I'm a huge fan of family names. I plan to name my kids (whenever that happens, lol) after family names.. love it.

I also seriously laughed out loud when I read the name Spanky.. I love my dog Willow's name, even though everyone mistakes him for a girl dog because they think Willow is a girl name, lol. Poor thing will probably have gender issues as he gets older. :)
