Thoughts on Thursday.

I posted! I posted! I feel like there are not enough hours in the day lately so I have definitely been neglecting my blog, as well as reading and commenting on my favorite blogs. Makes me kind of sad and out of the loop!

Here are some random thoughts as of late....

-Last Friday night we went out to Freshfields' Music on the Green night to celebrate Alicia's birthday. These are one of my favorite nights during the Summer. Live music, hanging out with good friends, and a BYOB/BYOSnack type of atmosphere. I knew I didn't want to drink beer (makes me so full) or wine, so I popped into Total Wine on my drive home and picked up some Skinnygirl Cucumber vodka. I followed this recipe on Skinnygirl's website that turned out to be SO good and refreshing! Perfect for a warm Summer day.

SKINNYGIRL™ CUCUMBER REFRESH
  • 1½ parts Skinnygirl™ Cucumber Vodka
  • 4 mint leaves
  • 1 large basil leaf
  • 1 lime wedge
  • 3 parts soda water
  • ½ tsp. agave nectar

Squeeze lime wedge into rocks glass. Muddle lime wedge with mint, basil leaves and vodka. Add ice. Top with soda water. Add agave nectar and stir. Garnish with lime wedge.

-Saturday we enjoyed another boat day with Emily, David, and Lane. He is becoming quite the boater in his young age!

-I always screen shot interior design pictures on Instagram (as well as food pics) and file them in an album on my phone. I snapped this one from Honey and Fitz and it just confirmed the fact that I NEED a spindle chair in my life.

-This week started out as a typical crappy Monday. I took on two new properties Monday so I was feeling a little overwhelmed with that to start off with, and on my way back to the office from an onsite meeting to another meeting, I managed to hit the corner of our building with the side of my car. Ugh! The damage isn't completely awful, but it sure isn't pretty, and it definitely brings down the value of my already low-valued car. Is it bad of me to hope someone will give me a love tap in the same area so that they'll have to repair it?

-Starting tonight, we have a very busy and exciting weekend ahead! Our good friends, Justin and Jenny, are getting married! Cameron is a groomsmen, so we will be attending the welcome party tonight, rehearsal dinner tomorrow night, and of course, the wedding Saturday. This is going to be a FUN one. Cheers to the future Lews!

That's enough rambling for one day. Linking up with Natalie and Annie!

Thursday's Thoughts {Birthday, New Job!, Credit Card Update}

Today I'm linking up with Annie and Natalie for Thursday's Thoughts!
Thoughts for Thursday

-Last night we celebrated Kate's 31st birthday (confession: I wrote Happy 30th on her FB wall AND her bday card. Bad friend.) by grabbing dinner at Sweeney's on Johns Island. It's a fairly new restaurant that I've heard mixed reviews about and have always wanted to try. I'm glad they chose this restaurant to go to because I really enjoyed it! I ordered the tomato soup, which I let everyone taste and we were all fans, and the charcuterie. Tried pate for the first time - didn't hate it, didn't love it. The pimento cheese was my favorite, it was so creamy! Cameron ordered the kale and brussels sprouts salad with salmon on top. I would definitely order that salad just by itself next time I go!

After dinner, we headed next door to Seanachai's for a quick mojito. Cameron, Caroline, and I raved about them to everyone, but I was actually disappointed in last night's batch. Oh well, we'll still be back!

-I GOT A NEW JOB! I haven't really mentioned it on my blog, because you never know who reads it, but I've been looking for a new job for quite some time now. The nights, weekends, holidays were definitely taking a toll on me and I wasn't the happy person I used to be at the end of the day. Something had to change. After multiple interviews, a few big let downs, and lots of prayers, I'm happy to say that I will be starting a new job in September! Hello Monday-Friday, 9-5, no working holidays, and flexible schedule! It will be my first job not in the hospitality industry, and I'm really excited about it. I will be an association manager for a locally owned company here in Charleston, managing properties on Kiawah! The office is downtown, which will be a nice change of pace, but I'll still get to see the beauty of Kiawah a couple times a week. HOORAY!
Taken on my way to work this morning
-As of two weeks ago, I paid off my last credit card! Can I just tell you how awesome that feels? Starting from over $7,000 in credit card debt down to $0. I know I've said this before, but I really have Cameron to thank for making me realize how stupid it was to have that much debt and hardly anything to show for it. Now I just have a little under $2,000 left to pay on my car and I'll be debt free!

-I really need to get back in the gym. It has been close to a month since I've really worked out and I can definitely tell.

Thursday's Thoughts.

-First, I'd like to apologize to my seester for not giving her an official Happy Birthday blog post. She turned 26 this past Sunday and still looks 16. It runs in the family.
I met her and her boyfriend, Aneeth, out for a few drinks after work Saturday and on Sunday, we did the family celebration at our parent's house.
She's actually on a plane right now to Iowa where she will meet up with my Aunt Debbie and then they will drive to Omaha to watch some of the College World Series! So jealous! Would have been even better if the Gamecocks hadn't lost on Tuesday..but I guess you can't win every year.

-And an early Happy Birthday shout out to my wonderful sister-in-law, Kara! I seriously hit the jackpot with the in-laws, y'all. They are all so awesome and so fun to hang out with!

-Loving my new skirt I got from Bashful Boutique in West Ashley.
Cameron, it's Emily's fault, she made me go in there.

-Thank you to all of my readers for your super kind comments on all of our wedding photos! Thank you for letting me relive that day in multiple, multiple posts. And I'm still not done yet! I always loved seeing real weddings during my planning, seeing and hearing about specific details, so I'm hoping that you all feel the same way!
-I've been working with Lauren on designing a new look for the blog and I am SO excited with how it is turning out so far!! Thank you to Katie for recommending her to me!

-Look at all of these gorgeous flowers I got to take home with me after last Saturday's work wedding! Since Cameron has the worst allergies, he convinced me to give half of them away. It didn't take much convincing though because we gave them to his sweet grandmother, mom, and my sister.
Look how humongous this peony is!

-Brady gave Cameron and I a scare last night. Cameron fed him a piece of table scrap (naughty, I know) and he started doing this weird breathing thing. After calling our vet friend, Justin, he told us that he was probably reverse sneezing. What?!? I've never heard of that before! He said people frequently bring their dogs to the emergency vet because they think they're choking.

Here is a You Tube video to show you what it looks like just in case your dog does it.

Thursday's Thoughts.

-We had a fun dueling piano event at work last night! Everyone was having a good ol' time!

-It's not cool that my Dolce Vita sandals are coming apart just a month after having them.
-I know I probably shouldn't even bring this up, butttttt the other day I got a nasty anonymous comment. In the 3 years that I've been blogging, I've only gotten 2 sassy comments, both of them being this year. Both over something completely ridiculous. This time? Get this - it was because I called Cameron handsome. I wasn't even going on and on about him. I simply stated that he looked handsome in one picture and for that, I was "bragging." Excuuuuuuse me if I think he's handsome. Last time I checked, this was my blog, he was my husband, and I'm allowed to say whatever I want and I'm also allowed to think he's handsome and say so. And thank you to my bloggy friends that saw the comment and backed me up. :)
So now - bye bye anonymous comments. Ain't nobody got time fo' dat.

-We're starting our supper club back up and this Friday is the first one! So excited! This time, instead of the host making all of the food, the host will make the main dish and everyone else will bring either an appetizer, salad, side, or dessert. I volunteered to bring the dessert and I'm making this chocolate brownie trifle!

-Excited for Saturday when we celebrate Cameron's grandmother's husband's 90th birthday! Then after that, we're heading to see needtobreathe at the Performing Arts Center! Going to be a great weekend!

One more day until Friday!

Thursday Happies.

These are the things that are making my heart happy this week...

-A note from the BFF on my windshield I found while leaving the gym.

-A text from Cameron regarding our before-work gym date that we were supposed to have yesterday morning. We both set our alarms and when they went off, we both just cut them off without even saying anything to the other person and went back to sleep. We'll try again on Monday...

-Pinterest and blogs for making me brave enough to wear this outfit in public.
Is it even cute? Or should I stick to the white shirts with colored pants??
(I do realize I look like an Auburn fan.)
New favorite work pants found here. Much cuter on than online.

-My second dress fitting is tonight so I made sure I ate a healthy lunch today, along with drinking extra water. I do realize that this should be an everyday occurrence, but I'm just keepin' it real. :)

-Emily and I taking a girls trip to Columbia this weekend to see the Gamecocks play Missouri! Can't wait to see all of our Cola friends and the new Williams Brice HUGE video board!!

Thursday's Thoughts.

-Last night we were invited to a shrimp & grits cook-off at a friend of a friend's house. It was an intense cook-off and both dishes turned out to be amazing! No one could quite pick a winner, but it was unanimous that #1 was more of a dinner style s&g, and #2 was more of a brunch style s&g.

Presenting the awards
Celebration almond champagne - so good!
-This morning I jumped on the PSL bandwagon and stopped by Starbucks on the way to work. Worth it.

-Alyssa & Chris welcomed their little boy, Owen, into the world yesterday around 4pm. He has a head full of hair and is so precious!!

-Speaking of babies, last week I mentioned that Kady & Kyle were doing their gender reveal on Saturday! After about an hour of stalking FB, a picture was finally put up!
It's a..........

Thursday's Thoughts.

-Let's start by saying that the 2012 Gamecock football season begins a week from today!! Next Thursday when I wake up for work is going to be way better than Christmas morning!

-Natalie always has the best recipes and snack ideas on her blog. On Tuesday, she posted about some jalapeno jack pretzel crisps + hummus. I stopped by Publix yesterday on the way home from work and what do ya know? The pretzel crisps were on sale BOGO so I picked up a bag and some hummus. Immediately dug into them when I got home. They are the perfect combination because the pretzels are a little spicy, and then the hummus cools your mouth back down. Try ASAP! :)

-I picked up some new (and cheap) shampoo and conditioner the other day and I am loving it so far! Not only does it smell amazing and wake me up in the morning, but it leaves my hair so soft and I've noticed that I don't have as many fly-away's.

-This weekend Cameron and I are going to hang out with my aunt & uncle at their lake house! They've owned it for 3 years now and we've never been out there...and it's only about an hour away! I'm such a bad niece. Plus, their old house was on the market for 16 months and it finally sold and closed this week! I'm sure we'll be doing lots of celebrating! :)

Thursday's {Random} Thoughts.

Last night there was a super scary storm. Lightning and thunder everywhere! It woke us up atleast twice. At one point it literally sounded like water was pouring into Cameron's office. It wasn't, thankfully, but the rain was just coming down sideways in sheets. When we were checking that out, the power went out. No big deal, right? Well we didn't have power again until 12:30pm. Luckily I got a warm shower, but my hair is a frizz ball. This was the same storm that lightning struck and destroyed a house on the island that I work on - story and pictures here. Luckily no one was inside the house at the time.

Moving on...

I met with a florist today and I REALLY liked her. This was my second potential florist meeting and I am feeling her way more than the first florist. She was so patient with me, asking me lots of questions, sketching things when I couldn't envision them in my head and had a lot of great suggestions. I still want to meet with one other florist to make sure I'm making the right decision though and compare prices.

I've got a giveaway in the works that will most likely start on Monday! A special treat for you SEC & ACC fans! Click the picture below to check out the website.

All the randomness I have for now! Enjoy your evening!

Thursday's Thoughts.

Thank you for all of your sweet comments regarding my Wedding Wednesday post! All of your excitement got me even more excited! :)

Now on to my random thoughts for the day..

-One of my co-workers brought Trader Joe's pumpkin butter to work this week. Ummm how have I been living without this stuff?? It is SO good. I put it on my toasted whole wheat english muffins as a mid-morning snack and it totally hit the spot. Next time I'm in Mt. Pleasant I am DEFINITELY picking up a few jars.

- {av} at long distance loving did a great post today on self-tanners. It was perfect timing for me because I just started using my self tanner again and do not like the kind I'm using. It's smelly, sticky and makes my face feel greasy. Go check it out and let her know which self tanner is your favorite!

-This weekend I will be heading to Savannah for Jen's bachelorette party! As close as it is, surprisingly I have never been out in Savannah! I've seen a few blog posts recently about bachelorette parties in Savannah and they've all had a blast so I have no doubt in my mind that we will, too! I just hope I don't come home as hungover as Cameron did last weekend from his friend's bachelor party...yes, I just called you out. :)

There's my short and sweet post for the day!
Welcome to all of my new followers (and Pinterest followers - holy cow!)!

Thursday's Thoughts.

Not a whole lot going on in my neck of the woods today. I got to sleep in since I have an event tonight, which was nice. Extra sleep = happy Megan.

Did any of yall give up anything for Lent? I decided to give up beer. Hopefully giving it up will help my get rid of my mini gut I've acquired this Winter. It's definitely going to be a challenge for me though (without sounding like an alcoholic). Sometimes after work, I just want to come home and drink a beer. And on the weekends, I drink beer because it doesn't give me a headache like wine and liquor does. Guess I'll just have to learn that word moderation when it comes to wine and liquor until Easter. :)
Is this considered moderation?

This weekend our friends, Shelby & Trey, are getting married! Trey has been friends with Cameron since high school and they both went on college together at Clemson. Trey and Shelby started dating about 6 months before Cameron and I met so it has been lots of fun hanging out with this sweet and super fun couple over the past 3 years! I know the wedding is going to be a blast and Shelby is going to be b-e-a-u-tiful!
They even color coordinate! haha jk :)

Saturday, before the wedding, I'll be going to my first wedding dress appointment! Joining me will be my mom, my sister, the bff, Cameron's mom and my two grandmothers. I can't wait! But I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little stressed that I'll be too picky or won't find one in my price range. I do have two more appointments set up in March at other stores so I'm going to try not to get too stressed just yet!

Hope everyone is enjoying the BEAUTIFUL weather today!

Thursday's Thoughts.

Another random Thursday post coming atcha!

-The ski trip was SO much fun! It started snowing almost immediately once we got to Boone and was almost continuous throughout the entire weekend. We wound up skiing a whole day on Saturday and a half day on Sunday. I hadn't been skiing since high school so my first run was really sloppy and I almost killed myself by going straight the entire time rather than zig-zagging. I was hauling ass and was seriously scared for my life. Oops. After that, it was like riding a bike. It all came back to me. :)

View from the top of the mountain.
The guys enjoying the hot tub. None of the girls stepped foot in it all weekend, surprisingly.
We also found some plastic sleds in a closet at the house. I think we might have had more fun sledding than skiing. Possibly.

-Cameron's sweet parents gave me us this SUPER soft and cozy planket from Pottery Barn. They received one for Christmas and every time I go over to their house I grab it from their bedroom and cozy up with it. It's on sale right now so I suggest you get one! You won't regret it!
Top color
-Not gonna lie, even though wedge salads are super easy to make, I was pretty proud of how mine turned out. :)

-I like to take pictures of my meals.
French toast casserole topped with bananas fosters (minus a bite) that I made for everyone before a day of skiing!
Avocado & tomato bruschetta sprinkled with balsalmic vinegar. SO GOOD.
Pork chop, skinny potatoes au gratin & sauteed kale with tomatoes and feta.
-After almost a year and a half break (when he bought the house), Cameron and I are members of a gym again! We used to both be members of Pivotal but now we're at East Shore. I can already tell I'm going to love it. So much closer to our house and I have lots of friends that are members there, which will motivate me to actually go! I did a core class on Tuesday, Taebo last night and Emily & I are trying out Zumba tonight! Some awesome white girl moves are going to be happening.

All for now! :)
