Friday Five: 5 Ways We Survived the Charleston Snowpocalypse.

Well friends, you can rest assured that we survived the Charleston Snowpocalypse of 2014.

Here are five ways that we did it:

{one}
Stock up on firewood if you have a regular (non-gas) fireplace.
Tuesday morning, I woke up super early and started calling around. Called both Lowe's and Home Depot and they were out. Skipped calling grocery stores because the last few times we've bought wood from those they were too wet to burn. Tried a local hardware store and they had a minimal amount left so I quickly got ready, put Brady in the car for a fun little ride, and we were off.

{two}
Use the downtime that you have, while stuck at home, and clean!
Believe me, after day one of doing nothing but laying on the couch, it will feel good to get up and get things done. And that project you've been putting off for months? Tackle it.
You'll be so happy that you did.

{three}
Start watching a new tv series.
For us, it was House of Cards. The entire first season in a day and a half.
We received an Apple tv for Christmas and have loved catching up on all of the Netflix shows we've missed without having cable. I love all of the drama in the show and love even more that Kevin Spacey's character is from Gaffney, SC (which happens to be my high school's big football upstate rival).
Can't wait for season 2 to begin!

 {four}
 Stock up on snacks and junk food. And wine.
Is an explanation really needed?

{five}
Break some rules.
Let your sweet pup on the couch for some cuddle time, and stay in your pj's all day.

All of that preparation for this...
Luckily, we didn't lose power so the firewood wasn't even needed. It snowed/sleeted at our house for maybe 30 minutes and that was it.
I do feel awful for all of the people in Atlanta and Alabama that got the worst of it.
Nice try, snowpocalypse of Charleston, nice try.

  1. Sounds like you had a successful "snow"pocalypse (even tho you didnt really get much snow haha).
    We tried to watch house of Cards, only the first episode and we weren't sold, so we didn't watch any other episodes. Maybe we need to give it a try again...

  2. House of Cards is sooo good! I'm sure you're ready for the warm weekend headed your way after all the cold temps down there this week. Have a great weekend!

  3. We tackled the snow day exactly how you did - clean, cooked, watched TV, and chilled. It was a really nice mid-week break!! And House of Cards is amazing- cannot wait for season two.

  4. #4 is my favorite way to handle a snow day. I was desperate to get out of the house and have other adult interaction. I tried going to Publix and even they were closed... fail.

  7. So glad you all did not get the ice we did! I live in Atlanta, and my husband and I were glued to the news watching the horrific traffic...that is, after he got home from sitting in all of it :( I managed to eat all of the junk food in our house, so I guess I survived ;p

  9. Breaking the rules and being lazy was the best. Rals and I curled up for quite awhile.

  12. Haha that was my reaction too... that's it? Though I wasn't surprised. We looked for firewood all over too! I love starting new shows when you're stuck inside, before you know it you've watched a whole season!

  14. Most importantly, the wine!!

    Do you like your Apple TV? Tyler & I have been talking about purchasing!

  15. Haha so funny you were all prepped for nothing. Oh well, better than suffering through what Atlanta experienced!

  17. Love house of cards! I signed up for netflix right after xmas when I was sick and couldn't do anything. Let's just say the amount of tv I have watched since then is embarrassing!

  18. So glad you survived! :) Also, I'm insanely jealous that you live somewhere where a little dusting of snow causes such a stir! Indiana is far too snow covered and cold this year and I have serious Southern envy.

  19. Hilarious! I did start tackling our wedding album....

  24. I am at least glad that in MI we're pretty much always prepared for the incessant snowstorms--whether or not a state has the road equipment makes a huge difference! Of course I'm getting slightly bored of the 4 ft. drifts of snow in my driveway...

  25. I went so stir crazy during all my snow days the last two weeks! I remember after the first snow, I took an outing to the library and post office and was so excited...anything to get me out of the house!
